Edwin Wilson is a poet, painter, and lapsed scientist with an interest in history. Born at Lismore, New South Wales, in 1942 (of Danish/Irish/English stock, whose great grandfather had anglicised his name from Wilhelm Jensen Sondelev), he originally lived in the farming community of East Wardell, and was known as Peter as a child. He was educated at Mullumbimby and Murwillumbah High Schools, Armidale Teachers' College, and the University of New South Wales, graduating with a B.Sc. in (inorganic and nuclear chemistry, and botany).After working as a science teacher he lectured at Armidale Teachers' College (later incorporated into New England University), and was then appointed as an Education Officer at the Australian Museum, Sydney. From 1980 to 2002 he worked in Community Relations at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney, retiring in 2003 as an Hon. Research Associate to work on a breeding program of cool-climate 'Latouria' type high altitude New Guinea hybrids with Phil Spence (until 2006). In September 2014 Phil registered the orchid hybrid Dendrobium tapiniense x Dendrobium johsoniae with the Royal Horticultural Society (UK) under the Grex name of Dendrobium Edwin Wilson .On retirement he enrolled in art school, and met his brother Edwin, known as Jim (the detail of this story may be viewed for free on the Internet, as a PDF of the second edition of The Mullumbimby Kid). In 2008 he was elected as an Exhibiting Member of the Royal Art Society of New South Wales, and won their Medal of Distinction at the 2010 Spring Painting Exhibition, In 2011 he had his first (joint) painting exhibition (with Bruce Herps) at the Artarmon Galleries, Sydney .His Mullumbimby-themed Painting Exhibition was shown at Tweed Regional Gallery, Murwillumbah, in 2014, just after the opening of the Margaret Olley 'Installation'. Edwin Wilson is married with three adult children and lives at Crows Nest, a suburb of Sydney
